Articulating Block
The Articulating Block (AB) Fabriform® is characterized by the “pillow” look that it attains after installation. The top and bottom layers of fabric are woven together in a fashion to create semi-individual pillows, therefore creating “weep” points to release hydrostatic pressure beneath the Fabriform®. The method of weaving into semi-individual pillows also allows the AB Mat to flex if necessary. Cables can be installed for added strength. The pillow texture has the highest Manning coefficient of friction, which is necessary when dealing with excessive wave action. The Articulating Block style comes in a staggered and a non-staggered configuration, each having its advantages.
Some areas of installation for any of the Articulating Block Fabriform® are bridge abutments, water control structures and dams, Intra-coastal waterways and shoreline protections, turning basins in ports and marinas, sub-aqueous pipelines, landfill covers, dikes and levees, and other areas that are susceptible to more severe wave action or increased flow velocities.

The smallest in the AB style, the 4"AB is used where soil consolidation or changing water conditions may occur. The 4”AB has a nominal thickness of 4”.
The most common AB style, the 6"AB is used where soil consolidation or changing water conditions may occur and added weight is advised. The larger size gives greater scour protection. The 6”AB has a nominal thickness of 6”.
The largest in the AB style, the 8"AB gives the greatest protection from scour, changing soil and water conditions and gives excellent protection against abusive wave action.
